Members of the Board of Supervisors serve as the legislative and executive body for Yuba County and provide policy direction for all branches of County Government.  There are five Board members and each member is elected on a non-partisan basis for a four-year term to represent a particular area, or district, of the County. Supervisors from Districts One and Five are elected in State general election years (2002, 2006, etc.) and Districts Two, Three, and Four during Presidential election years (2000, 2004, etc.) Supervisorial Districts vary greatly in geographic size however they all have approximately the same population.  District boundaries are redrawn after each federal census to equalize the district population as closely as possible.

The selection of the Chairman and Vice-chairman are done annually pursuant to Government Code §25020 and are by a majority vote of the Board of Supervisors.

The Board adopts ordinances, resolutions, and rules within the limits prescribed by State and Federal law and is responsible for ensuring that all Federal and State mandated functions are properly discharged which also includes:

  • Determines annual budget allocation
  • Approves contracts for public improvement projects and other services
  • Makes important land use decisions
  • Provides for the compensation and benefits of all County officials and employees
  • Creates boards and commissions as needed appointing members and fixing terms of office
  • Exercises executive authority for the provision of local government services to County residents including roads, health and welfare programs, public defenders, and jail facilities.

Supervisors also assist citizens in solving problems and addressing local concerns.

All meetings of the Board of Supervisors are public meetings and offer an opportunity for you to speak on any agenda item as it is discussed.  Items not listed on the agenda may be addressed during Public Communications.  Because of state Brown Act restrictions, the Board is not permitted to take any action on items addressed during Public Communications.  Agendas, including backup material, are posted on Wednesday evenings, prior to the meeting date, and are also available at the Government Center and County Library.

If you have questions or concerns, you may write, fax, phone, e-mail or visit the Board office.
