Creating your own FIRMette

A FIRMette is a full-scale section of a FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) that you create yourself online and are formatted to fit on printers commonly found in offices. There is no cost for making a FIRMette. FIRMettes can be used in all aspects of the NFIP including floodplain management, flood insurance, and enforcement of mandatory flood insurance purchase requirements.

You can make a FIRMette of any map in FEMA’s inventory online using the FIRMette – Web tool. For those who prefer to work offline, FEMA also provides a FIRMette – Desktop tool that makes FIRMettes from FIRM Scan data you have copied to your computer.

FIRMette – Web
You will want to use the FIRMette -- Web tool if you have a fast, reliable internet connection. To create a FIRMette, you must first find a flood map.  Here are the links for the Unincorporated area of Yuba County, City of Marysville, or City of Wheatland, then click the View button associated with that flood map. For detailed instructions on how to create a FIRMette, try FFEMA's online tutorial.

FIRMette – Desktop
You will want to use the FIRMette -- Desktop tool if your internet connection does not support easy download of large data files, you often work offline, or often use the same set of flood maps and would prefer to store them locally. For detailed instructions for how to create a FIRMette, try the user guide. You will want to use the Desktop tool if your internet connection does not support easy download of large data files, or you often work offline. First, you must download FEMA’s FIRMette Desktop software. Once you download the software, you may either go right to creating a FIRMette or try the user guide.
